Project based learning with a focus on the arts…

The Global Learners homeschool co-op and immersive summer camps offers a hands-on educational experience. As a small non-profit located in southern Oregon we aim to encourage knowledgeable, empathetic global citizenship. Students are engaged through a project based education that incorporates traditional academics with the arts, nature and world studies. The arts span every culture and every time period in human history. From painting and sculpture to culinary and literary, arts have shaped and advanced the human experience. Consequently there is a tangible connection between cultures. Through projects we create an education that resonates with students, giving them a sense of purpose. We involve the mind through the senses, allowing students to gain new skills, confidence and a love of learning.

Teaching towards an inclusive global future in southern Oregon…

Teaching coach and director, Debi Scholom, brings a range of unique experiences to share with the class. She has floated down the Mekong River in Laos, attended the Dali Lama’s teachings in India, explored museums in Paris, and learned traditional art from a master in Turkey. Born in Switzerland, raised in southern Oregon, and living for shorter times in Finland, Costa Rica, Alaska and the Dominican Republic, she has an international worldview. Worldschooling with her three children around the globe has allowed her to combine a homeschool education with travel, while gathering ideas to share with Global Learners.

Background and Education…

Debi Scholom obtained a bachelor’s in English and Art from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. Then, in Costa Rica, she earned her TEFL (Teach English as a Foreign Language) certification. Teaching experience includes teaching three years of classes ranging from 1st – 7th grade, running camps, and working with kids for many years as a foster parent and advocate. During her career she worked in tourism, bringing people from all over the world to the United States on small group educational tours. She integrates these real world experiences to engage her students.
